About T.J. English

T.J. English began his career writing about New York City’s criminal underworld, organized crime and the justice system in the 1980s, while driving a taxi at night. He is the author of New York Times bestseller THE WESTIES; Edgar Award nominee BORN TO KILL; PADDY WHACKED, which was developed into a 2-hour History Channel documentary; and HAVANA NOCTURNE: How the Mob Owned Cuba, and Then Lost It to the Revolution, which stayed on the New York Times bestseller list for eight weeks. His journalism has appeared in Esquire, Playboy and New York magazine, and he has written episodes of television crime dramas NYPD Blue and Homicide. English’s forthcoming book, THE SAVAGE CITY, delves into the violent racial hostilities between the New York police and the Black Liberation Movement during the 1960s and 70s, and will be published in February by HarperCollins.
