About Tie Ning
Tie Ning came to prominence with a national short story award at the age of twenty-five. She was elected president of the Chinese Writers Association in 2006 at the age of 49, becoming the youngest writer and first woman to be honored in this way. She has published ten novels, as well as collections of shorter fiction. Two of her works, “Oh, Fragrant Snow” and “The Red Shirt Without Buttons,” about young women caught between their longing for a new life and harsh contemporary realities, were made into prize-winning movies in the 1980s. THE BATHING WOMEN was published to critical acclaim in 2000 and enjoys a large literary and popular readership in the People's Republic. It was made into a television series in 2006. Her novels have also been translated into Japanese and Korean.
Tie Ning is leading a delegation of Chinese writers attending the London Book Fair as guests of the British government. She will be reading from her work there.... back to author main page
